When Veronica moved into her home in July, she felt something she had been missing—a real sense of belonging. “It felt like home as soon as I walked through the door,” she says. “Safe and welcomed—that’s what home means to me.”
Her journey here wasn’t the easiest. In 2021, Veronica was diagnosed with vascular dementia and placed in a care home. “From the first week, I knew I didn’t belong there,” she recalls. “Three and a half years later, doctors confirmed I didn’t have dementia. It was a huge relief.”
Moving to VIVID gave her back independence. “Having my own front door and a proper shower—those things matter,” she says. “I feel safe here.”
One of her favourite features is the new sensory garden. “It’s beautiful,” she says. “The squirrels and birds love it. I go down when the weather’s nice, put out bird feed and watch them play. It’s peaceful and makes you feel connected to nature.”
Community life adds to that sense of belonging. “We have singing on Tuesdays—people come from all over,” she smiles. “One resident even dresses up as Elvis! It’s great fun.”
For Veronica, the combination of independence and community is priceless. “No matter your age, you still want to feel valued,” she says. “Here, I do. It’s like one big family.”
