What the Customer Scrutiny Panel means to Karen

After years of being a full-time carer, Karen found herself wondering what was next. Being a carer had been her focus and her life, but when that chapter ended, she wanted something for herself—something that would make a real difference.

“I needed something to do for me,” Karen says. “And I needed to find a way that I could help make a difference.”

That’s when she came across VIVID’s Customer Scrutiny Panel (VCSP). After receiving a few messages about getting involved, Karen thought, why not give it a go?

“I thought, what better way can I start again than to try and make a difference to my community? I would give it a go.”

Joining the panel gave Karen a reason to get involved, have a voice and do something for others. It’s about making new friends, stepping out of your comfort zone, feeling proud of what you can achieve and having another purpose that challenges you. For Karen, it wasn’t just about influencing services—it was about meeting new people, sharing ideas and working together to make things better. Her story shows how powerful customer voices can be. Through the VCSP, she’s found a new purpose, connection and the chance to help shape the future for others.

She says: “There just is no better way than to get involved, have your voice heard, listen to others, work together and make that change.”
