Making new friends, trying new games and enjoying time outdoors were just some of the things local children got out of Sport in the Community's summer sessions.
After being awarded a grant through the VIVID Plus Community Investment Fund, Sport in the Community was able to offer more affordable places during the school holidays, helping more local families take part. The fund offers grants to support community projects that benefit local people and VIVID customers.
Held at Wynter Road playing fields in Bitterne, Southampton, the sessions gave children the opportunity to play football, enjoy team games and spend time with other children from the area.
For many, it wasn't just about sport.
Children talked about enjoying the football matches, working together as a team and meeting new people. One child said they loved the matches, while another said their favourite part was passing the ball, scoring goals and helping their teammates. Others spoke about making new friends and playing games with children they hadn't met before.
Over the summer, the sessions became a regular fixture for many children, bringing together football, friendship and plenty of fun.
Sport in the Community is one of many projects supported through the VIVID Plus Community Investment Fund, which helps local people, community groups and organisations bring good ideas to life. Whether it's starting something new or growing an existing project, the fund supports activities that bring people together and help people get more from their communities.
