From testing smoke alarms to avoiding overloaded sockets, here are some simple ways to stay safe
As we head into the colder months, many of us use more heating, lighting and electrical appliances around the home. We've seen a small number of fires in recent months, some involving electrical items and overloaded sockets. With that in mind, we'd like to share a few simple reminders that can help keep you, your family and neighbours safe.
- Give your smoke alarms a quick test every now and then to make sure they're working properly
- If you notice an issue with fire safety equipment in a communal area, please let us know
- If you're using a portable heater, make sure it has plenty of space around it and isn't too close to furniture, curtains or bedding
- Avoid plugging too many items into the same socket, particularly when using extra heating and lighting
- Keep communal corridors, lobbies and stairwells clear so they remain accessible for everyone
