Being aware of scam phone calls

Recently, we’ve had several reports from our customers about suspicious phone calls that they’ve received from unknown phone numbers. We want to take this opportunity to raise awareness about phone call scammers and what you can do to prevent and report this suspicious activity.

A few weeks ago, one of our customers called us to explain about a phone call she had received where the caller was asking strange questions.

These questions surrounded her personal life, including whether she was employed, on any dating websites and how much money she had in her account.

When the customer told the caller that she didn’t do any online banking, the phone call ended abruptly. The customer tried to call the phone number back, but the caller wouldn’t pick up.

We advise you not to answer phone calls from numbers you do not know, as they could be a scam. Legitimate callers will also never ask you for personal information over the phone, such as your bank details, or to update private information, such as passwords.

If you do have a suspicious experience with a potential phone scammer, you can report it to report@phishing.gov.uk, or the www.actionfraud.police.uk website.
