Christmas is right around the corner and at this time of year it’s really important to be aware of scammers and fraudsters. All of us will be shopping for presents and being busy means a lot of us will turn to online shopping. To help you shop safer and to protect yourself and your loved ones, we’ve put together a few tips to help you outsmart the scammers!
Most of us will be expecting messages from websites such as Amazon and eBay, and couriers like DHL. Fraudsters may send texts or emails claiming to be from one of these shops or pose as a courier sending you tracking information. To keep safe, always visit the website directly rather than clicking the link in the email.
Remember legitimate companies never ask for your bank details in an email and your bank will never ask you to click on a link.
If you or someone you know has been scammed, report it and get help. Contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online at www.actionfraud.police.co.uk. Don’t be embarrassed to report fraud. Scammers are cunning and clever and there is no shame in being deceived. By reporting it you will make it more difficult for them to deceive others.
