We’ve seen the first residents move into brand new homes in Chapel Gate, right in the heart of Basingstoke. We’re welcoming new home owners, some having purchased through the private sales process and others using the shared ownership mechanism. Other new residents have had their homes allocated to them through Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council’s housing register.
We’ve worked in partnership with Barratt Homes to bring this collection of contemporary 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes to Basingstoke, and so far 2 shared ownership, 2 affordable rent homes, and 14 private sales have been completed. A further 8 private sales are anticipated this month, with a further 19 in June.
Lisa Enefer has just moved in after buying a property at Chapel Gate through the shared ownership system: "I’ve always lived in Basingstoke; it’s where my whole family live and my son attends Vyne Community School. I was having to consider moving out of the area as house prices were too expensive.
I applied for shared ownership with VIVID as I had a deposit for a property but was unable to afford a mortgage for the whole value of a property. Shared ownership has been invaluable and has enabled me to get on the property ladder and become a home owner.
The staff at VIVID have been helpful, friendly and informative. They seemed to be just as excited about my new property as I was!"
Throughout June and July, more affordable homes will be completed, with 9 for rent and 4 shared ownership ones.
Julie Porter, Head of Development at VIVID said: “Chapel Gate is one of our largest and most important developments. Providing 578 new homes on this brownfield site is significant for the town; especially as ultimately there will be 230 affordable homes available for rent and through shared ownership.
As a strong regional housing association, our clearly defined social purpose is to build more homes and make them affordable for everyone. We have plans to build at least 1,200 new homes a year across all tenures, making us a major builder of new homes amongst British housing associations.”
Lynnette St Quintin, Sales Director for Barratt Southern Counties adds: “Sales of private homes have got off to a flying start at Chapel Gate and the development is now one of Barratt’s best-selling sites in this region. As a real community is starting to form here at the development and more homebuyers settle into their new homes, we expect to see the success of these high quality town centre homes continue to thrive.”
