The first phase of a vibrant new community we’re working on has sprung into action!
We’re part of a project developing a site in Eastleigh, between Chestnut Avenue and west of Stoneham Lane, and it officially got underway when the Mayor visited the site to dig the first patch of land.
The first phase of the brand-new community will include 560 homes, made up of a mix of one, two, three, four and five-bedroom homes. Nearly 200 of the homes will be made available for affordable rent and shared ownership through us.
Key to this first phase are the 146 new homes that are being purchased through a joint venture between us and Eastleigh Borough Council. These homes will be available for market rent through the council.
Mike Shepherd, our Director of New Business & Development said:
“We’re delighted to be working with Highwood and Eastleigh Borough Council to build much needed additional housing in the area. We’re highly committed to ensuring more homes, and the right type, from low cost rent to market rent, are available to help tackle the housing crisis and improve the wellbeing of local communities.”
In addition to the homes, there will be green open spaces and children’s play areas, with pedestrian and cycle links across the site, some of which will follow the routes of historic carriage drives. A new link road is also being constructed to help smooth the traffic flow in the area.
All of the new homes within the initial phases are being built by VIVID, with Highwood acting as the main contractor. The first homes are due to be completed next year with the whole site being developed over three phases.
Mayor of Eastleigh, Cllr Mo Sollitt said:
“I’m delighted to officially get this new exciting development of Stoneham Park community underway. It will provide enhanced facilities for all Eastleigh residents and provide much needed affordable housing, allowing local people to be able to have a home of their own. It will provide homes for market rent and affordable rent alongside homes for sale that will help reduce our housing waiting list and assist in meeting the shortfall in housing across the borough.”
Simon Beech, Sales Director of Highwood Homes commented:
“In total, the new development will provide 1,100 new homes, and the proposal also includes plans to create a new local centre, including a new primary school, children’s pre-school nursery, community building, residential care home, retail and office buildings and car parking. We’re delighted to be spearheading the creation of this exciting new community that’s set in the beautiful landscaped grounds of a former deer park.”
