According to the Office of National Statistics 22% of the population still have extremely limited or basic online skills. So, housing association VIVID is having its own digital drive for communities in the south for National Get Online Week (GOW) from 14-20 October.

VIVID already has a team of volunteer Digital Mentors across the south with a talent for nurturing those looking to get started online or just to be more confident using the internet and tackling internet safety concerns.

Each day of GOW the Digital Mentors will be running sessions that’ll help people get comfortable online using the internet to do things like complete online forms, use search engines, email and shop online as well as how to make sure of secure surfing.

Sessions will be being held in Basingstoke, Fareham and Eastleigh. See the time-table below.

GOW is a Good Things Foundation campaign. The Good Things Foundation is a social change charity, helping people to improve their lives through digital.

VIVID Partnership Manager Cleon Hutton said: “Get Online Week is a great opportunity for people to take a first dive into the fantastic benefits the internet offers. while also addressing how to stay smart and get free advice on internet security.

VIVID staff and mentors will be on hand at sessions to walk people through processes and show them simple tips to make the internet safe. They will also help any VIVID customers set up their online account which allows them to manage their rent payments, book repairs and other benefits.
