We're helping Basingstoke get online!

Like some help getting online? More free places are now available at Basingstoke library for local people wanting to learn some internet skills through our highly successful digital inclusion scheme.

The scheme, run at local libraries across Hampshire in partnership with Hampshire County Council, aims to build confidence and knowhow with all things internet - from how to use a search engine and shopping online to completing online forms and making sure you can turn on privacy settings.

According to the Office of National statistics around 10% of the population still had no online skills with a further 12% have limited or very basic skills at the end of 2018

Our digital inclusion sessions are run by “digital mentors” – volunteers from the local community. The mentors aren’t necessarily technical geniuses, but they can share plenty of experience, knowhow and friendly advice.

Basingstoke library is now taking new sign ups to take advantage of the support and can phone up to book a session on 01256478670 during library opening hours.

VIVID Partnership Manager Cleon Hutton said: “With most public services now requiring some internet knowledge, too many people are still being left behind. We started this scheme with Hampshire County Council’s help last year as a service not just for the marginalised in social homes but for any member of the local community looking to take advantage of the online world.”
